Fairfield via St Sunday Crag 11 July 2011

A beautiful afternoon for an ascent of Fairfield from Patterdale, via Birks and St Sunday Crag (2,756'), and the ridge to Fairfield plateau (2,863'). Excellent dramatic views down to Ullswater, then of Helvellyn and Striding Edge immediately to the north across Grizedale, and the Scafell range, Pillar and Great Gable to the west. Quite a few people out on the fells in the fine weather.

Meall nan Aighean, Carn Mairg, Meall Garbh and Carn Gorm (Glen Lyon) 24 June 2011

A fine day for the Carn Mairg group to the north of Glen Lyon - I did it the "wrong way round" as I realised when I met everybody going the other way! Steven Fallon recommends going anti-clockwise as I did, to get the views to the west. Anyway, a fairly easy ascent to the first Munro, Meall nan Aighean (3,218') with good views south to the Ben Lawers range (as there was throughout the day) and the rest of the ridge to the west. Then on via a steep rocky ascent to the highest Munro, Carn Mairg at 3,415'. This led to fairly level going across the plateau of Meall a'Bharr with two cairns, to the third Munro, Meall Garbh (3,175') - and finally a pull up Carn Gorm at 3,375', the most westerly of the four with good views to Ben Nevis and the Mamores and Glencoe; and Ben Lawers and Meall nan Tarmachan to the south. Four Munros in a day has to be good going, even though I got lost going down and had to descend through forestry plantations to the road in Glen Lyon...... Munro total now 61.

Meall a'Bhuiridh and Creise 14 June 2011

The forecast for a fine increasingly sunny day was correct. I approached these 2 Munros between Glencoe and the Black Mount from Glencoe Ski car park, a fairly long pull up to the first peak, initially following the chairlift. The 2 summits (Meall a'Bhuiridh, 3,635' and Creise slightly lower at 3,609') are linked by a fairly rugged ridge that requires some scrambling - both are fantastic viewpoints in perfect weather as today - amazing 360 deg panorama from Ben Nevis and the Mamores / Grey Corries round Glencoe and Glen Etive to Ben Cruachan, Rannoch Moor and the Perthshire Hills.

Meall nan Tarmachan 4 June 2011

A morning walk before travelling home in the afternoon - cloudy with hill fog after yesterday's sun. A well-trodden path up to this popular Munro, but no views apart from glimpses of the ridge on starting off. I stayed briefly at the cairn (3,422') for some photos then descended along the same route.
