Cairn Gorm and Ben Macdui 9 May 2011

Rather showery and windy conditions, with dramatic sun and cloud effects, for the first day of my 4000 challenge with guide Steven Fallon and fellow client Gayle. We first climbed to the summit of Cairn Gorm (4,084') from the ski car park - broken cloud was above the summit - then across the windswept plateau to Ben Macdui to the south, the second highest mountain in Britain at 4,294' - some views from the top across to Braeriach and back to Cairn Gorm and Loch Morlich, in between mist and showers. The clouds rather closed in on the summits during the afternoon as we descended the ridge east of the Lairig Ghru.
